Meet our happy herd

Meet our happy herd

At LittleOak, our fresh whole goat milk comes straight from our little farm in the rolling hills of New Zealand—milked daily in small batches and made with more love and care than any other. Our LittleOak families often ask us about our goats – from what they eat, to where they live and how we ensure their health and happiness. After all, when it comes to choosing the right nutrition for your little one, every detail matters. So, we’re answering some of the most common questions about our goats. Let’s dive in.

What breed are your goats?

At LittleOak, our fresh whole goat milk comes from our lovely Saanen dairy goats. Their coat is generally short, fine and is white or cream in colour, with large, bright eyes to take in their beautiful surroundings. Saanens typically have a gentle nature, thrive on company and like to keep to a routine, so are well-suited to life on a dairy farm.

Where do your goats live?

Our goats live a happy life near Palmerston North in New Zealand’s North Island. We only want milk from happy goats, which is why we have fewer goats per hectare, ensuring they have plenty of room to roam Most of our kids also grow up right here on the farm and are raised to become the next generation of our happy herd.

What are your goats fed?

Our goats are fed pasture-cut grass from our farm

Do you use antibiotics or hormones on your goats?

Our range of goat milks are lovingly milked and made right here in beautiful New Zealand, which has the highest production and quality standards anywhere in the world. Our milk sourcing programme does not allow hormones to be given to the goats and we also regularly monitor the milk for substances such as pesticides and antibiotics. After all, we’re on a mission to ensure that each and every can of LittleOak is as wholesome and pure as nature intended.

How often are your goats milked?

Our goats are usually milked twice a day. This can also depend on the milking season.

Are your goats given vaccines?

The well-being of our goats is super important to us – after all, they’re part of our family too. At birth, all our kids receive a conventional Covexin 10 vaccination to protect them against Clostridial Disease, which can sadly be fatal in animals.

How are your goats cared for?

We love our goats and look after them carefully. In addition to annual veterinary checks, our goats are closely monitored throughout the milking season to ensure that they are happy and healthy. If, for some reason, one of our goats isn’t well, she is removed from the milking cycle until she is back to full health and able to rejoin the milking herd.

We love talking about our happy herd, so if you have any additional questions about our goats, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our CareTeam – we are always here.
